Becoming a member of Dog B.O.N.E.S.sm is easy and offers many benefits to teams and facilities. Members receive ongoing support through a matching service to facilities requesting visits, insurance, identification tags and bandana for the dog, and identification cards for the handler. To become a certified therapy dog team with Dog B.O.N.E.S. the owner handler and the dog must attend and pass our Introduction to Becoming a Therapy Dog Team Workshop.
Dog B.O.N.E.S.sm Workshop: Upon completion of the Intro to Becoming a Therapy Dog Team Workshop, the team must pass the Dog B.O.N.E.S.sm registration/observation test. Owner Handlers must demonstrate a global understanding of the needs of the elderly, the disabled and the young. You must exhibit appropriate skills to volunteer in a variety of settings. The dog and owner handler must demonstrate that they are working as a team.
Currently Registered - Making Visits: Any dog registered with an International, National or Local Therapy Dog Organization may become a member by completing and passing the Introduction to Becoming a Therapy Dog Team Workshop.
Membership Categories and Dues:
Active Therapy Dog Team: Owner Handlers 18+yrs. old, dogs 1+ yrs. old, registered and actively visiting - $25 Annually
Junior Handler: Anyone under 18 years of age must be accompanied by their certified Dog B.O.N.E.S. parent on all visits.
Volunteer Members: Support the activities of Dog B.O.N.E.S.sm - No Dues
Facility Members: Request ongoing visits from Dog B.O.N.E.S.sm - No Dues
Here are a few general guidelines for membership:
All Dog B.O.N.E.S. visits must be conducted as a volunteer. You may not bring your dog to work with you or make Dog B.O.N.E.S. visits while you are working.
Dogs are required to be on a 4 foot or shorter leash at all times when making visits.
Dogs must be a least one-year old. Therapy Dog Team owner handler must be at least 18 years of age.
Junior handler (under 18 yrs. of age) must be accompanied by the Dog B.O.N.E.S. certified parent on all visits.
Dogs must have all vaccinations current including DHLPP and possibly corona virus.
Heartworm test may be necessary depending on where you live.
Certified therapy dog teams must carry proof of Dog B.O.N.E.S.sm membership on all visits.
Dogs and handlers must be clean and well groomed.
